The Begining
AFP was founded in 1978 at Bethel College in McKenzie,Tennessee. Six members of GAG-GFI picked 20 games from the Huntsville Times that founder David Shepard received from home. The records of the first 3 years were lost but Mark McClintock was champion the first year.
The Commissioner
R.Scott Allen was named commissioner in 1982. He has a B.S. from Bethel College and a MBA from Middle Tennessee State University. Duck is a member of the Bethel College Athletic Hall of Fame. General Electric has reached new heights since Scott was employed there. Duck lives in Springboro,Ohio with his wife Sue and three children Josh,Jay and Jessica. Scott went 17 years between a shared UPI title in 1981 to his AP championship in 1998.

The Assistant Commissioner
David Shepard was the founder and first commissioner of AFP. He has a B.S. from Bethel College, M.Ed. from Memphis State and a plus 45 from Middle Tennessee State University. He is a member of the Bethel College Hall of Fame. David teaches 8th grade science and Mt. Juliet Middle school and coaches volleyball and basketball. He lives in Mt. Juliet,Tennessee with his wife Judy and children Lauren and Brandon. He won his first AFP title in 1986.
